Why should I replace my missing teeth?

If a tooth is lost for whatever reason, it is necessary to replace it for reasons other than esthetics. Losing a back tooth will cause the tooth or teeth behind it to tip into the space, leading to gum problems and changes in your bite which can be harmful to the Temporal Mandibular Joints. The tooth opposite it in the other arch will start to over erupt again causing the same issue. Replacing the tooth restores the efficiency of the bite and maintains better tissue health.

Is there a lot of pain associated with a root canal?

There usually is considerable pain from the tooth before the root canal procedure is done, as the nerve in the tooth is reacting to a problem that is causing it to die and eventually abscess. The actual procedure itself should be 90-100% pain free as freezing should be adequate to remove any pain during the procedure. For a day or 2 after the tooth can be painful to bite on until inflammation subsides. An anti-inflammatory/ pain medication usually takes care of this.

Can I still whiten my teeth if I have filling(s)/crown(s) on my front teeth?

Yes you can! However the fillings and/or crowns will not change colour. They may my need to be replaced in order to better match the new shade of your teeth. We do not advise changing them before since there is no way to predict what shade your enamel (teeth) will lighten to.

How long does the freezing last after a procedure?

The amount of time varies depending on the amount of anesthetic given and the location in you mouth. Typically, freezing on the lower jaw takes longer to “come out” than on the top. Generally speaking, you can expect anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours after the procedure has been completed, for all freezing to "come out."
