The Link between Oral Health & Diabetes

  Diabetes and your Dental Health

Diabetes can cause serious problems in your mouth.  You can do something about it.

Complications of Diabetes:

  • Decreased dental healing response rate.
  • Increased risk of gum disease.
  • Increased incidence of a dry mouth (which increases the risk of cavities).
  • Increased risk for mouth fungal infections.
  • Increased incidence of denture sores.

See your Dentist if you are experiencing:

  • Red, sore, swollen or bleeding gums.
  • Loose or sensitive teeth.
  • Dentures that do not fit well.

If you have diabetes, follow these steps:

  • Control your blood glucose.
  • Brush and floss everyday.
  • Visit your dentist at least every 6 months.
  • Clean dentures well every day.
  • Quit smoking.  Smoking makes gum disease worse.

Visit your dentist regularly to preserve you smile and your health.
